A great model for sustainable agriculture!

Ironically Queensland is best known for exotic pineapples, mangos and bananas but a small group of producers are supplying gourmet products from fruits that are the progeny of our indigenous and Australian rainforest plants.

Martha Shepherd and David Haviland realised the potential in growing these fruits, when in 1997 they planted hundreds of trees on their small 11 acre farm. Two primary crops, Syzygium luehmannii and Syzygium fibrosum produce fruits that have been trade marked respectively as Rainberries and Raincherries.

Timeout! Hoping to revise the bland look for my current blog. Reactions about the sweet look of http://www.traditionslighting.com/? Truly a trustworthy Madison based holiday lighting service if, perhaps looking in the general WISCONSIN region. Make your feedback. Cheers!

Their company, Galeru Pty Ltd, now consists of four specialist growers who have a total of 8,000 trees comprising 20 native rainforest species. The fruits are used by local processors who produce gourmet bakery products, sauces, pastes, chutney and yoghurt. Utilising Galeru's formulations, these products are made to high standards of quality and food safety, and distributed online, locally on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, and at selected gourmet outlets throughout Australia.

Recently the company has initiated a new strategy to work closely with foodservice clients to develop customised products. Galeru is supplying Crown Ltd Melbourne's restaurants with uniquely formulated chutney and fruit pastes.

As pioneers of a new industry, there are big challenges, not the least of which is educating consumers in these new flavours and products. Galeru's approach has been to offer 'ready-to-use' foods which highlight their unique native ingredients, winning awards for both product and packaging design in the past year.

Beyond the special flavours of it's native rainforest products, Galeru provides a model for sustainable agriculture by small specialist producers. All the fruit is grown biologically and no irrigation water is required utilising the Queensland location to Its best advantage.
