Martha Shepherd and David Haviland realised the potential in growing these fruits, when in 1997 they planted hundreds of trees on their small 11 acre farm. Two primary crops, Syzygium luehmannii and Syzygium fibrosum produce fruits that have been trade marked respectively as Rainberries and Raincherries.

The fruits are used by local processors who produce gourmet bakery products, sauces, pastes, chutney and yoghurt.
