Great Northern Timber is committed to sound environmental and forest management practices. Supplier's follow a GNT implemented Code of Practice, while Provincial legislation has taken a proactive approach to sustainability.
The pulp and paper companies in Nova Scotia have been SFI certified for several years. Great Northern Timber procures substantial amounts of fibre from these companies and has provided clients with 75%+ SFI certified fibre.
The certification process is active in Nova Scotia with an established FSC program for private woodlots and a developing SFI certification program for private woodland contractors. Sustainability and professional forest management are an important part of the culture in rural Nova Scotia.
Great Northern Timber has initiated proceedings to become SFI certified by the Spring of 2008.
